CALL FOR APPLICATION
Ms. VIJITA DE SILVA RESEARCH AWARD - 2024
The Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) invites applications for the Ms. Vijita de Silva Research Award - 2024, the annual research award for the best completed research in the Library and Information Science (LIS) field in Sri Lanka. The award comprises a cash grant of Rs. 50,000.00 and a certificate. Application forms and other details can be downloaded from www.slla.lk.
The duly completed application along with the deposit slip for the processing fee of Rs. 1,500.00 which should be deposited to the account of Sri Lanka Library Association (A/C no: 0002323087, Bank of Ceylon, Independence Square Branch) and two copies of the research work, should be forwarded to the Administrative Secretary, Sri Lanka Library Association, 275/75, Stanley Wijesundara Mawatha, Colombo 07 on or before 22.04.2024.
INAUGURATION CEREMONY OF DIPLOMA IN LIBRARY & INFORMATION SCIENCE PROGRAMME (DLIS) - 2024
The opening ceremony of the Sri Lanka Library Association's Library and Information Sciences Diploma program was held at the National Library and Documentation Services Board Auditorium on January 27, 2024. The President of the Sri Lanka Library Association, Mr. Preethi Liyanage, the Secretary of the SLLA, Mrs. Varuni Gangabadaachchi, the Treasurer of the SLLA, Ms.K. Samanthi, the Education Officer, Mrs. Priyani Balasuriya, and the nominee of the Governing Council, Dr. Ruwan Gamage, and other distinguished guests participated in the event. There, Dr. Ruwan Gamage pointed out the necessity of using online learning according to the prevailing economic situation. Subsequently, the educational officer elucidated the essence of the course as well as the prospects for post-completion further education and employment that the students may pursue. The students who did exceptionally well in the previous year shared their experiences and the advantages of this course with the new students. |
63rd Annual General Meeting of Sri Lanka Library Association
The 63rd Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Library Association was held on 30th June 2023 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. Prof. M. Thilakasiri, a renowned resource person in Human Resource Development & Strategic Management and former Director General of SLIDA, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. Sumana Alokabandara, Director General of Combined services of the Ministry of Public Administration, was the guest of honor. Fellowships by Achievement, Honorary Fellowship, and Associateships of the SLLA were awarded during the inauguration. The outgoing President addressed his accomplishments during his tenure, and the New President explained his future plan for the council in 2023/2024. The President (elect), Vice President, General Secretary, and other office bearers were selected through nominations, and conveners of different groups and committees were also selected during the meeting. |
